Long Ashton (All Saints) Scout Group
In 2008 we celebrated 90 years of Scouting in Long Ashton with a party held on the Long Ashton Cricket grounds in September. This was an event to catch up with scouters of all ages who have participated in scouting in the village. There was a great turn out and the sun came out to shine for us. All current scouters received a commemorative badge to wear on their scarfs and those who have been associated with Long Ashton Scouts were given one for their camp blankets. It was great to see so many people on the day who have benefited from scouting in Long Ashton. We look forward to seeing them all again and some who could not make it when we celebrate our 100 years in scouting in the village!
The Beaver colony is thriving under Maria Holcombe with the recent achievment of two of the boys gaining their Chief Bronze Scout Awards on 23 January 2009. Phil Woolcock, the District Scout Commissioner, came along to the meeting to present these awards. The rest of the Colony is well on their way to receiving this award as well with one boy due to receive it the last of April. The Beavers meet on Monday Evenings from 18:00-19:00 fortnightly.
Cubs have new leaders in Ian Graham, Dick Glass, and Andy Tyas providing an active program for a very lively pack Wednesday evenings from 18:45-20:15 fortnightly. They are preparing to go on Cub camp again this year.
Deb Erskine, Simon Jones, Will Jones, and Chris Mitchell lead the Scouts meeting on Thursdays fortnightly from 19:00-20:30. This year sees our group with one team preparing for the Ten Tors challenge in May. Good luck to them all.
