The motor car is destroying the village feel of Long Ashton by antisocial speeding and ubiquitous parking. Cars will reamin part of village life for many years to come, however schemes can be introduced to encourage walking and pedestrain safety. For example, at strategic locations and busy junctions, speed tables can be incorporated which can be designed to resemble mini town squares. The added benefit would be toincrease the village feel at many locations along the Weston/Long Ashton Road. Finance for such schemes could be sourced from housing evelopers under a s106 planning agreement. (plan provided of possible scheme for block paving/coloured tarmac from Lovelinch Gardens , past the Co-op and the Pizzeria, and up Keedwell Hill as far as the doctors' surgery; with gentle ramps to slow down traffic; and extra seating near the bus shelters outside the dentists and the Tipple.)

A weight restriction on the rooad and some minor traffic calming works, enough to help reduce the though traffic. Better community facilities, doctors, dentisits and other health workers out of your control but an excellent social facility are public houses, we had 4 ,now there are effectively 2 that are usable. Good pubs serving quality and affordable food are one of the better ways of integrating a community ( at no cost to that community)

Concerned about traffic and speeding esp. on main road. Consider traffic calming measures at all entrances of village plus speed warning signs, cameras etc. but NOT speed bumps. Discourage lorries but SatNav is to blame here. Heavy plant for new development should avoid rush hour which it does not at present. Yellow lines not the answer - it clears the road and encourages speeding. How about zebra crossing near post-office? Availability of medical facilities needs reviewing especially in light of preventative medicine and wellbeing clinics being encourages. Keep the Greenbelt! S106 agreements bring little advantage and more grief than bebefit. Need to be stronger on large-scale developments.

speed humps do slow traffic down cheap and effective. buses during the off peak are virtually empty shouild they run less often. The council have caused much of the traffic problems by allowing houses to be built without parkikng facilities I have lived in the village since 1947

1. The elimination of anti-social behaviiur by the well known elements. 2. Improvement to traffic flow into bristol. Why does Bristol bound traffic have 2 lanes into bristol at the end of the bypass mwhen if it was only one lane, it would allow drivers from long ashton to join the new A370 without queueing or stopping. 3. A similar situation exists and could be improved at Humphry davy way(for LA commuters returning home. The A4 bcomes 2 lanes just before Humphry Davy way. Why? 4. A proper and safe cycle route into bristol for LA residents so that they could avoid the dangerous (for cyclists) Cumberland basin). 5. A purpose built health centre (with off street parking).

2.07 restrict carriageway to single lane at edge of village, priority to outbound traffic, 3.08 quality of buses very poor - dirty, old 3.09 should deliver bus timetable to houses, every 15 mins service would increase useage 3.12 cycle lanes on road not safe, suggest use of pavements, need to copy examples from continent 6.03 village green in the centre- where King nursery would be ideal 8.05 improve street lighting - only 3 lights in /chestnut 7.07 parking on main road allowed in clumps which would ack like traffic calming

1. Any ways to decrease traffic flow in and out of the village at peak times. 2. Increase village "feel". 3. Decrease loutish behaviour. 4. More businesses to create jobs within the village (decreases traffic) 5. More facilities for older and younger members of the community. 6. Double yellow lines throughout Long Ashton/Weston Road. 7. Allotments great idea - more rural feel. 8. Better policing, especially for the Govers (Off-licence). 9. Put hold on building new homes as village cannot cope. 10. Must keep weekly refuse collection.

2.03: Traffic calming alwlays causes bottle-necks; enforcement and education are the ways forward. 2.07: The problem at Glebe Road has been exacerbated by the ill-placed school. Closing this would only move the problem elsewhere. There needs to be a proper connecting road between the A38 and A370 and Weston Road. 3.03: For whose benefit? 3.07 & 3.08: How can you compromise quality any further? Service is abysmal at best of times. We need to get VALUE FOR OUR MONEY! 3.10: Waiting areas need to be LIGHTED; most are in total darkness. Also the drain at the stop opposite Glebe Road needs clearing to prevent flooding. 3.12: I cycle a lot in the village. Major problem is the lack of courtesy and common sense displayed my MOST drivers. 5.01: Though delivered, it is always late - events on Thurs. Fri. or Sat. always get missed out because don't know about them until AFTER they have happened. 5.07/5.09: Each of these ideas has its pros and cons, and the degree of each will depend on the type of person the new resident is. It may be necessary to employ each on a trial and error basis to find which really works, but one thing is for certain, there needs to be clear, concise, relevant and TIMELY info. to help integrate - it's just like settling in to a new job. 7.03: Need to enforce the current rules esp. for those irresponsible dog owners. Also need more BINS. 7.02: Need to do something about the youths that hang around littering and abusing passers-by before ? 8.02: Pavements need to be widened for access reasons, and parking should be restricted esp. on the main road. 8.05: Not encountered problems. 9.03: Jobs in the village will create traffic! There has to be adequate traffic management plans for all new developments. 10.02: More annoyance than 'unsafe'. 10.04: Is there a service? 11.01/11.07: Facilities used by young people that cater to their interests is good, and will teach them skills, and provide the guidance they don't get at home. 11.08/11.10: Location would be an issue with these, though they would be good, as access would be paramount. 11.11/11.17: If dog mess is a problem, then enclose the pitch or prevent dog walking and enforce it - there are many other places to walk dogs, but need more poo bins. Something like a proper BMX track or skate park would help prevent the damage done in the woods by kids who build impromptu tracks and cause lots of damage, and put walkers and dogs at risk. Would also keep them off the streets, and give them an area they can call their own.

Problem is quantity NOT speed with fraffic. Park and Ride is at the wrong end of the A370. It should be before the car share lane. Traffic calming will not stop queues in the morning. Cafe and accommodation would be an excellent idea. Co-op car park should be cleaned up and used. Providence Lane: Please put double yellow lines on the blind corner below the 'Retreat' Pub (just above Hebron Church). Every day there are problems with parking around the corner - very dangerous.

1. Re-tarmacing of the disgraceful road surface - uneven, potholed and dangerous - along the new houses on the Research Station site (main road). 2. Speed humps as cars swing into Long Ashton (at 40/50 mph) off of Clarken Combe. 3. Prohibited parking (double yellows) down one side of Church Lane especially outside of the Angel Inn entrance on Church Lane. 4.The bus stop before the turning after Yanley Lane needs to be prohibited parking. This is a dangerous spot in the rush hours as buses cannot pull in because of parked cars. 5. Mini roundabout Long Ashton Road /Clarken Combe to allow safer and more efficient exit from Long Ashton onto Clarken Combe. 6. Double yellow lines on the main road along the new houses of the Research Centre site - accident black spot.

Long Ashton is pleasant village to live in. A few 'problem' areas :- speeding traffic on main road, loitering near shops and park. More reasonably priced shops - less car use. Co-op improving, well stocked but bakery expensive. People have to drive to gatcombr Farm Shop or use trecherous pavements by fast road. Could Gatcombe supply fresh produce to Co-op? Cafe/ meeting place would be good for young mums. Parking at Post Office difficult and dangerous. Need signs to Northleaze School. Dog poo is major issue - irresponsible owners at fault.

Facilities for disabled people, especially if they have a mobility scooter. It is impossible to use mobility scooters in LA because it's not disabled friendly. There are not any sloping kerbs. The pavements are very narrow. There should be more shops in the village to cater for disabiled people who cannot travel alone further afield and for the people who have moved into the new housing. Clubs for women on their own or married to make new friends. Seats at bus stops in the village. Disabled parking outside the Doctors. New glasses for drivers in LA because they don't seem to be able to read the speed limits of 30mph. Christmas decorations and lights plus a christmas tree, party for the residents of LA. We live in the dark ages here. Backwell and Nailsea have Xmas lights! Street lights are awful here at night, it is very dark. Cafe in the village to meet daily for a coffee and chat. There is nothing to invite people to come to the village or to stop for if you are driving through. What shops there are are too spread out. Bank, Taxi rank, hardware store, clothes shop, stationers, we need these shops in the village.

Traffic calming and/or restrictions in Providence Lane to improve pedestrian safety. Suitably positioned double yellow lines to prevent use of laybyes by visitors to the pubs or obstruction of the laybyes. Provision of allotments within the village and improve shops to reduce the need to go to Bristol.

Traffic/speed calming measures on Providence Lane should be a priority. Double yellow lines actually make it easier for traffiv to speed. This is especially a problem as for most of the Lane there is no footpath.

Traffic impact suggestions good, but would they be enforced? Existing ones not. Yellow lines ate end of Glebe road

Improvements to Providence Lane - speed of traffic and lack of pavements. Increased kerbside collections for recycling to include plastics and all cardboard.
tagged with: pavements   providence lane   traffic

Very dangerous parking on bends in Providence Lane is allowed. Double yellow lines should stop this. Traffic calming in Providence Lane should also be installed since traffic is often too fast particularly as there is no pavement for pedestrians
tagged with: providence lane   traffic

Rather than, as is currently planned, cleaning Providence Lane of parked cars along its middle section, can we please find a way to slow the traffic down. Parked cars actually slow the traffic down. By constantly adding double yellow lines the council is giving drivers and easy and clear "rat run" to use day and night.

LA no obvious centre, people use Bristol facilities because close, new development may increase shops which LAPC should, link road and new south west housing development will make village a suburb of bristol, LAPC should: fight development in ashton vale, promote an annual fair on the rec, ban lorries through village - providing number in local newsletters for reporting incidences, appoint a paid communty maintenance officer to maintain community facilities, advertise for volunteers to assist in particular projects eg paint doors, clear guttering etc.

Q2.07 is unclear. Does it mean stopping traffic going into Glebe Rd from Yanley Lane? If yes this means closing off Yanley Lane during the rush hour. This would be an excellent idea. Better still Yanley Lane and Glebe Road should be access only. In Yanley Lane, whilst not directly a Parish Council issue, we always seem to be left out when it comes to recycling services and receiving information.
tagged with: information   traffic   yanley lane

Close off Yanley Lane to make it access only for residents. Put access road onto the bypass and off the bypass from Wild Country Lane/near Barrow Hospital to route the traffic from the Nailsea end of Long Ashton to the bypass rather than through the village. With the number of new houses put in amenities at the Nailsea end of the village i.e. pub/restaurant. Reduce speed limit on Yanley Lane to 20mph along its entirety from Glebe Road to the Woodspring golf and country club. I have lived in Long Ashton for 10 years and I have never been welcomed into the village and feel it's only for administration convenients that Yanley is part of Long Ashton, in fact if we had not rung the council we would not have received recycling bags and boxes. If the heading of Section 7 is correct then Yanley Lane is obviously not considered as the banks are eroded by the traffic and by fly tipping. Where is the Parish Councli action on that?

Unhappy with the Chairman of LA Parish Council's comment about 'further road signs and yellow lines not being desirable (newsletter/winter 06-07). Safety counts for more than aethetics Mr Scoones, resign forthwith. There is a huge parking problem in the area around the new Northleaze School and if restrictions - yes, signs and yellow lines - are not introduced, there will be fatalities. I hope to see LA Parish Council adopt a more enlightened and less precious policy in the near future. Qestion 2.07 "entry should be prohibited.. rush hour" is imprecise. Please name the exact junction - don't use vague terms like top 2 bottom. Apart from increasing drivers road rage and inconveniencing local residents I can't see what these closures would achieve. Glebe Road has pavements, incidentally, on which pedestians whould be safe if parking were properly regulated. Providence Lane is a necessary artery. The one way (I remind you it is one way) section of Yanley Lane is unsuited to any increase in traffic volume (dangerous junction at Glebe Road). It seems to me that vast sums have been poured into youth projects and community centre already. The surgery could improve health provision massively by staying open later in the evenings.

There should definitely be double yellow lines on the main road at the Weston end of the village. The new houses have garages and drives, why don't they use them?
tagged with: parking   traffic

Heavy rush hour traffic through the village is a problem. More people would use the Park and Ride if there was a footpath to it from the Theynes Croft Estate.
tagged with: park and ride   traffic

I disagree with the introduction of double yellow lines on the main road as this would create an even faster rat run through the village. There is an ever increasing volume of traffic using LA at rush hours instead of the bypass. Perhaps restricted entry to the village at this time would solve the problem.
tagged with: parking   traffic

Footpaths and signs are now very good. More jobs in the village would not reduce traffic, as 'villagers' may not be employed in them. People using the village as a ratrun to avoid the bypass in rush hour are a problem. Bus lane on the bypass defeats the object! Increased parking by commuters at Ashton Court end of village is a problem. Parking on narrow sections of Weston Road is a problem. Lack of parking spaces for new houses on Research Station land is disgusting - the developers are making a fortune, putting very little back into the village. Traffic from Research Station development has increased and will get worse with commercial areas. The village is losing its identity.

Larger research stn building should be HOTEL. The Parish Council opposed plans for budget hotel and filling station opp Smyth Arms/Dovecote as petrol available at Sainsburys. Is this at odds with Park and Ride traffic? FOOTBALL PITCHES - some leagues demanding solid 6ft fencing around pitches - there have been problems at Nailsea. It is cheaper to hire established grounds with all facilities management and maintenance rather than DIY. NEW SCOUT HUTS - a matter for the scouts organisation rather than the council unless the scouts provide a visible contribution to the village facilities (help to keep tidy etc). At the moment their uniforms seem to be seen once a year at armistice day. COUNCIL SERVICE INFORMATION - surely the source is the parish clerk at 45 Long Ashton Road. Alternatively the library but council minutes are often weeks or months in arrears. When the council subsidised the end bay(s) of the Jubilee Pavilion it was inferred that it would be a regular source for information and discussion with council officials with a proper opening timetable. What happened to the proposed arrangement for such 'one stop shop' as discribed. TRAFFIC CALMING - already created by continuous row of kerbside parking in some portions of the main routes eg near Ashover House etc. CLOSURE OF TOP OF PROVIDENCE - a stupid idea whcih would isolate Failand etc from essential early morning services in central Long Ashton eg dentist, deposit of prescriptions and making appointments at surgery, newsagents and grocery. Resulting diversions via Belmont or Clarken Combe involve circa 3 miles travel instead of half mile via Providence and would also transfer extra traffic to main roads of village. BUSES - bus routes using bypass should be diverted through village, creating extra passengers and revenue. 364 would give direct access from Long Ashton to Clevedon, X1 to business area of Locking Road WsM (alternatively extend some 354 Nailsea servides to Clevedon). SEATING AREA - a lovely garden and seating area existed in community centre grounds allowing to fall derelict and replaced by skateboard facility, the latter was vandalised and its replacement is buried under a pile of earth and turf. TRANSPORT - a small bus once ran from Failand and residential areas but disappeared without trace! PARKING - double yellow lines needed where pedestrian curb/road access applies eg vicinity of surgery at corner junctions of Keedwell Hill/Rayens Croft Rd. CO-OP CAR PARK - clearly marked as a customer car park although some latitude given to the immediately local residents. Gather lighting was removed at request of the latter as after hours car breaking was taking place under its illumination.
