The motor car is destroying the village feel of Long Ashton by antisocial speeding and ubiquitous parking. Cars will reamin part of village life for many years to come, however schemes can be introduced to encourage walking and pedestrain safety. For example, at strategic locations and busy junctions, speed tables can be incorporated which can be designed to resemble mini town squares. The added benefit would be toincrease the village feel at many locations along the Weston/Long Ashton Road. Finance for such schemes could be sourced from housing evelopers under a s106 planning agreement. (plan provided of possible scheme for block paving/coloured tarmac from Lovelinch Gardens , past the Co-op and the Pizzeria, and up Keedwell Hill as far as the doctors' surgery; with gentle ramps to slow down traffic; and extra seating near the bus shelters outside the dentists and the Tipple.)

The weak areas in Long Ashton are the condition and facilities of most of the shops. We consider the only quality shops are the bakery and the chemist. The other shops are in poor condition unbinviting and depressing. You only have to compare these shops with any in other villages. e.g. compare our Co-op with the one in Chew Magna. Chew Magna Co-Op is always well stocked, well presented, clean and withh polite and attentive staff. the whole central area of Long Ashton need to be brought into the 21st century in order to survive. Illegal signs are also a problem. Some retail outlets just keep adding signs without applying for planning permission these do not seem to be regulated and should be. Long Ashton is a good village with many good people, we all need to ensure it does not fall into an unregulated sprawl. I actively avoid Long ashton Post Office. I go to Failand monre than helpful and cheery.

young family and would welcome improved oppotunites for youngsters - especially sports/outdoor things, LA needs to operate independently from Bristol, very opposed to traffic calming and on street parking - support radar controlled devices - supports residential permit parking to discourage street parking and raise money for local use, would like to meet other villagers at the w.e. - sugggest quarterly village lunches to allow workers to meet famiies, having more of a 'village centre' more planting sponsored by local businesses
