The motor car is destroying the village feel of Long Ashton by antisocial speeding and ubiquitous parking. Cars will reamin part of village life for many years to come, however schemes can be introduced to encourage walking and pedestrain safety. For example, at strategic locations and busy junctions, speed tables can be incorporated which can be designed to resemble mini town squares. The added benefit would be toincrease the village feel at many locations along the Weston/Long Ashton Road. Finance for such schemes could be sourced from housing evelopers under a s106 planning agreement. (plan provided of possible scheme for block paving/coloured tarmac from Lovelinch Gardens , past the Co-op and the Pizzeria, and up Keedwell Hill as far as the doctors' surgery; with gentle ramps to slow down traffic; and extra seating near the bus shelters outside the dentists and the Tipple.)

we are very concerned about the speed of traffic on the main road. We do not want to wait for a fatal accident before the legal speed limit is enforced. I already cycle to Bristol for work every day but there is no convenient safe route. A good safe route would make it safer for those of us who already cycle and would encourage others to do so too. The old transport plan for Bristol 5 years ago identified a sum of money (£80,000 from memory) for a cycle path from the city centre to Long AShton, but 5 years later nothing has materialised. The new transport plan, prepared jointly by Bristol City Council and North somerset Council (and others), says it will encourage cycling, but there is no mention of the Long Ashton Cycle path nor much else concrete, so I am concerned that it is just rhetoric and no real action will be taken. 2 specific issues are: a) the speed bumps in Ashton Court are dangerous for bikes. I have thought this ever since moving here and reently a colleague badly broke his arm after coming off his bike trying to negotiate them. The route through Ashton Court is an official link to the Avon Cycleway so it should be of a suitable standard for safe cycling! b) the old railway bridge over the New Cut would be ideal for a cycle route staying off the dual carriageway. However, at present, access to the bridge at both ends is very poor. Signing is not the issue regarding cycle paths: the lack of cycle paths or cycle lanes is.

I aplaud the recent decoration of the shelter by the chiildren's play area, at last youthful talent comes to the fore, but what about the bottles and cans. Why have a "zebra" crossing? If people park by it! on it! and ignore the zig zag lines and yellow lines. The answer is that we are waiting for someone to be knocked down on it. Also vans and lorrries delivery for the co-op unsighting pedestrians.

As a mother of 2 who still requires a "buggy" - I experience difficultiesin getting in and out of some of my local shops. Especially on days when I have to use a double buggy. The chaemist and Post Offcie have high steps making it difficult to get buggies in and doors open. A slope would be useful. In addition the post office layout is poor and difficult to get around with buggys and I often go to Nailsea P Officewhere space and entry to the shop is not a problem.

The weak areas in Long Ashton are the condition and facilities of most of the shops. We consider the only quality shops are the bakery and the chemist. The other shops are in poor condition unbinviting and depressing. You only have to compare these shops with any in other villages. e.g. compare our Co-op with the one in Chew Magna. Chew Magna Co-Op is always well stocked, well presented, clean and withh polite and attentive staff. the whole central area of Long Ashton need to be brought into the 21st century in order to survive. Illegal signs are also a problem. Some retail outlets just keep adding signs without applying for planning permission these do not seem to be regulated and should be. Long Ashton is a good village with many good people, we all need to ensure it does not fall into an unregulated sprawl. I actively avoid Long ashton Post Office. I go to Failand monre than helpful and cheery.

7.04 Double yelow lines Since Long Ashton has become a village of services, parking has changed from from short to medium/ long term (dentists, hairdressers estate agents beauty shops ) double yellow lines would push parking into the surrounding residential streets in the centre of the village making it difficult for residents to park and to receive visitors. Any new businesses and services should be sited away from the centre and be required to provide off street parking.

A weight restriction on the rooad and some minor traffic calming works, enough to help reduce the though traffic. Better community facilities, doctors, dentisits and other health workers out of your control but an excellent social facility are public houses, we had 4 ,now there are effectively 2 that are usable. Good pubs serving quality and affordable food are one of the better ways of integrating a community ( at no cost to that community)

Youth Club: if it is to be extended / run more frequently perhaps it could be run over 2 or 3 different sitesas those who live near the rec wouldn't want youth hanging round evert night of the week. Sufficient places in the village school A similar number of shops but more useful ones eg butchers, fish mongers, greengrocers. Cheaper bus fares , which will lead to fuller buses.

Better local shops including a grocers/general store at the ashton court end of the village. More pushchair accessible footpaths / circular routes in the village + improved footpath up to Gatcombe Farm shop (it gets very narrow). The removal by way of ASBO etc of the marauding yobs on bicycles who break into cars and commit crime is essential. One particular family lived on the former council estate by the shops should be removed asap. This might improve things. There should be an immeadiate stop to any further building of new houses in Long Ashton.

2.03 & 2.05 Traffic calming measures are a waste, roadside parking works just as well. 3.08 & 3.11 The quality and service of buses should not be compromised for price. 6.09 Not me or my family, but friends have. 7.04 More double yellow lines will create inconsiderate parking. 9.01 I would use a general website, but not specifically Long Ashton. 9.03 I do not agree that more local jobs would reduce traffic. 10.05 A warden/guard does not need to be stationed, just more visible. 11.12 Whilst a seating area would be nice, on its own it would be a waste. 11.13 Addtional changing facilities would be required. More needs to be done to improve rush hour traffic flow out of the village. In particular, the Bristol end of the village where traffic passing the Dovecote feeds onto the bypass.

Long Ashton is in need of a Medical/Health Centre, it is ridiculous to have the out of hours medical centre located in Weston-Super-Mare. Re Junior Moto-cross, 2-stroke engines are very noisy and any track would have to be loacted a long, long way away. It would also attract people from outside this area. Public transport would be used if the price was sensible.

I feel very strongly about retaining the existing green belt areas and I would strongly oppose Long Ashton being part of Bristol. I think that it would be better to have more intensive housing which is well designed and modern and save the green belt areas.

7.04 There are clearly section of the main road where double yellow lines are necessary, but they should be used with single yellow lines with constraints on parking at specific times (8.00am to 10.00am and 4.00pm to 6.00pm?). Traffic calming speed indicators would act as a reminder to those driving excessively fast. They would also be useful in particular "rat runs". Parking is not usually a problem at off peak times, therefore requires minimal use of double yellow lines. Currently the use of double yellow lines in Long Ashton seems to be inconsistant. Has their placing been decided by experienced road traffic engineers, or by parish councillors and residents who do not want parking adjacent to their property? An important factor is that parking restrictions should not, as far as possible, prejudice the running of local businesses. The lighting along the main road is largely lights hung on electricity poles. This does not satisfy the criteria that developers would have to adhere to. Is this not a safety worry? 11.09 Does not Gatcombe farm sell all produce available at a Farmers Market? 11.15 There are already many areas for dog walking. They should however be banned from sports field. 11.16 Should be intergrated with sports field and seating area. 11.22 & 11.23 These should be combined.

Cox's Lane if frequently obstructed by brambles and nettles during the summer months. They are sometimes cut back, but need treatment with herbicide. The road surface of Long Ashton road (esp between Theynes Croft and the Angel) is deteriorating badly, it is especially dangerous for cyclists. It needs resurfacing, although it is not possible to do the whole stretch, maybe the worst parts could be repaired. What happened to the pond promised by the new estate developers? The population of the village is increasing, what are the chances of the return of a newsagents and butchers/delicatessen?

In relation to the suggestion for Glebe Road (2.07), I think this is short sighted and does not consider those of us living in Yanley Lane. My suggestion is to close Yanley Lane above the last house in the rush hour periods to achieve the same objectives. Additional suggestions include: Traffic calming measures in Yanley Lane where housing is located. Given the future residential pressures the green belt retention is very important. Given the comprehensiveness of the questionnaire, I was surprised there wasn't more questions on the future expansion of Bristol as formulated in plans associated with the Regional Spatial Strategy.

Concerned about traffic and speeding esp. on main road. Consider traffic calming measures at all entrances of village plus speed warning signs, cameras etc. but NOT speed bumps. Discourage lorries but SatNav is to blame here. Heavy plant for new development should avoid rush hour which it does not at present. Yellow lines not the answer - it clears the road and encourages speeding. How about zebra crossing near post-office? Availability of medical facilities needs reviewing especially in light of preventative medicine and wellbeing clinics being encourages. Keep the Greenbelt! S106 agreements bring little advantage and more grief than bebefit. Need to be stronger on large-scale developments.

There should be double yellow lines on the road between Lampton Rd and Wild Country Lane, had near accident. Also cars parked at entrance to Lampton Rd and Fenshurst Gardens junction, I had a near accident.
tagged with: double yellow lines   parked cars

2.03: The reason we think traffic calming is not a good idea is because of District and Planning decisions to allow extra housing extensions etc and reduce road widths, which puts extra cars on the road. People do not use their garages or drive-ways. An intergrated system of speed cameras would be more effective for reducing speeds and would allow for monitering habitual parkers of blocking roads. 8.05: We were told when the 'Birdwell' estate was built that the front wall should only be for small plants. Now we have large overhanging bushes especially in parts of Fenshurst Gardens and Bradville Gardens, making walking on the pavements difficult. This also blocks the view when driving. There are also similar situations on the main road. Large commercial vehicles parked in residential streets - often on the pavement. No one seems to be interested. Maybe an evening Police patrol would be a good idea.

Long Ashton must definitiely remain administratively separate from Bristol. Not to do so would be the end of the green belt around Long Ashton. I also prefer the services offered by North Somerset. Secondly, parking on the main road is becoming a serious issue; in particular on the road outside Church House and the opposite side of the road because people are too lazy to walk from the new car park. A definite area for double yellow lines. Another area is the main road outside the new houses on the research station land. Again yellow lines nedded and this should be a problem for the developers to sort out. I trust they are going to resurface the road there once the houses are built.
tagged with: green belt   main road   parking

Action to be taken regarding the parking on Weston Road within the new developments - it seems only a matter of time before an accident is caused by people attemting to overtake parked cars on blind bends. There should be double yellow lines along both sides of this part of the road. parking on Fenhurst Gardens needs to be regulated. Most cars park on the left hand side, but the occasional car is left on the opposite side causing an obstruction. Whilst most cars can slowly negiotiate around these obstacles, it could be fatal if an emergency vehicle needed to get through. A double yellow line painted down one side would solve this problem.

It seems there are plenty of older persons clubs. To try to meet people i volunteered to be the secretary for the mother's union, however I was told by the lady taking the applications telephone call that as I was not C of E and not baptised I could not join! She then went on to ask me for new ideas to encourage yound people?? This is an example of old fashioned standards and surely for this group it would be an idea to encourage 'mothers' from all backgrounds. Also for yound people the more sporting activities the better. Could parents who are skilled at an activity offer to help run a club?

A delicatessen, something like "Cullens" - a chain in London area, would be an attractive quality foodshop. Too much on-street parking which narrows the main road around new houses on research station site. This area should have double yellow lines.

Traffic claming measures are our main concern. Overhanging trees, ivy, etc is of great concern, residents need to be aware of this! A local shop that doesn't just sell fast food would be great, sourcing locally grown food, ideally a farmers market. We would not have to travel to supermarkets which would be a good thing for the community.

A community health and leisure community centre! The existing doctor's surgery is too small and an ever increasing appointment time scale is pushing people into walk in health centres such as the one in Knowle, Bristol. There is no direct bus service for these centres and this is problematic for people who don't have transport - mainly the elderly. It's about time that North Somerset council tax payers were rewarded with a health centre of its own. a combined health and fitness centre with a community cafe is a move in the right direction. It would become the main hub for social interaction which is lacking. At present Long Ashton is gradually losing its community spirit. People now have home entertainment centres, the internet and xbox games - people need to invest in people! The elderly could benefit from the prospect of cheap meals at the community cafe, catch up on friendship - this will help against the fright of illness such as mental depression - and thus build confidence for the future. Children would benefit from leisure and health activities in developing social and communication skills and self esteem. Overall investment in youth and the elderly, health and fitness for all is essential for a positive outlook in life and for the future of the village. Let's not have a tumble-weed village!

traffic calming on the main road continuation of cylce path past new school towards Bristol less / no dog mess no more new houses Long Ashton to remain separated from Bristol less nuisance behaviour more recylcing e.g. plastic less large gardens / plots of land going for new houses.

One big comment. Since the new built houses a lot of cars and vans park on the right hand side entering Long Ashton from Combe Back. Not enough room at times for two car to pass should be made to park around the back (double yellow lines please).

Question 2.07 is puzzling - is it to make the flow of traffic faster? Large lorries, road repairs, etc are intimidatory for elderly people, mothers with prams and families using the pavements, which are, in the most part, inadequate. Mothers with prams and children often have to get onto the road to avoid 'road repair' signs or lorries or cars parked half on the pavement. No cars should be parked for long periods, day or night, on the roads. No cars should obstruct thep avements at any time. Question 7.03 Many elderly people live alone with companion animals and must receive consideration. Lowering the speed limit should be considered.

1. Something should be done about the volume of traffic through village in the village. At times it is impossible to get out of side raods to go to either end of the village. 2. Too many heavy lorries are using the LA/Weston Rd as a bye pass from the LA Bye pass. Perhaps the LA bye pass needs broadening into a dual carriageway to relieve congestion. 3. The airport has been extended enough. I object to hearing planes landing / taking off or even revving up at the end of runways in my sitting room as well as planes over my roof at night.

I cannot understand why the speed of cars through Long Ashton is a major safety problem. The real danger lies in the use of the main road as a car park, particularly at the West end of the village. Contrary to planning permission, residents of the new houses have opened the wall to obtain access to cars parked on the main road. The rsult is a long line of vans or cars parked on the left side of a left hand cuirve. When driving out of the village one has to move out to the wrong side of the road to see if a car is coming towards you. The length of the parked vehicles (I have seen as many as ten) means that sometimes there is a long wait in a dangerous situation for the offside of the road to be clear of other vehicles. This is a very real problem to bus drivers whose vehicles are slower off the mark and need longer to reach safety. It is only a matter of time before a serious accident occurs. Provision of double yellow lines on this stretch of the road is urgently needed. This will not be a problem to the owners of the cars since each ne house has parking space. In any case the matter calls for attention because original planning permission was not given for pedestrain access through the boundary wall.

I would love to see a swimming pool in Long Ashton itself and an area and a pool to encourage wilflife; walks for people as well as being a small peaceful area and in the village.

it would be helpful if the park and ride bus called nearer to the railway station (Temple Meads). Broken pavements around the Co-op are now dangerous. Communications to people as to how to join in many of the clubs needs to be brought together and not just in the centre of the village. Why is the Roman site at Gtacombe not on the village map as you leave the village? Good luck.

2.03 what are main routes? 7.03 This is not an issue inthe village in general owing to the dog mess bins which brought about a huge improvement. But we are told it is a huge problem on the rec. Why hasn't the Parish Council / Comm centre banned dogs and used powers in existence to enforce ban. 7.04 no point in having more yellow lines unless those in existence are enforced. 7.07 Where will parking be limited and who will enforce it? 8.04 Public footpaths in the countryside do not need better surfacing 9.02 It needs modernising and more appealiung to use if it is to survive 9.03 Many of the existing businesses are run / manned by people from outside the village e.g. hairdressers, dental surgeries, and this trend is likely in new ones. The new office blocks in wild country lane will be driven to. 11.16 use community centre 11.22 what about recent purpose built youth room

Traffic flow in and around LA like many other areas is greatly hindered by om road parking. Double yellow lines arfe not but could be an advantage if used with care. it is now common to find cars parked on or very close to corners & junctions so creating real dangers to drivers and pedestians. In answering the questionnaire I have taken some care in not askingfor expensive options since the communityy charge is already too great and money is limited. Although not a parish problem directly I would suggest that many of our local roads are in a very poor state of maintenance

As a single person of 64, many of the issues do not concern me directly. Long Ashton may be better admininstered from Bristol, who may view LA as one of its vital green areas. Disappointed by infrequent bus service. Some buses which go down the bypass could go through the village. Minibus to park and ride would be useful. Some pavements narrow, but no space to widen. Would support local employment for local people. Nothing seems to happen from Neighbourhood Watch now, although there were meetings and leaflets to begin with. Strongly in favour of facilities for youngsters. Could the traffic lights at the Park and Ride be turned off when the P&R was not running.

Street lighting could be improved on the main road. Green belt is very important at the Bristol end. Traffic calming is needed at both ends of the main road. The Bus times could be enclosed in the village newsletter. The paving by the coop and pizza shop is appalling. People are parking by thenew houses on the main road, this is going to cause an accident. Flowers/planting in front of the Bristish Legion would be good. Recycling bins for plastics would be better than nothing.

Like the village feel and our separate identity needs to be preserved. A better more regular bus service would help with a later last bus. Unaware of local cricket/football teams and facilities for live music and practice Are we twinned with any village in Europe? TV reception could be better Anyone famous from LA that we could exploit?

Would like safe cycle routes into City centre or alternatively David Lloyd Centre. Use schools for adult learning and other activities such as dancing/keep fit Need to attract more people to the bowling facility

Shops area (Co-op) needs updating. Car park need lighting and tidying up. Parking on Weston Rd is dangerous, especially near zebra crossing. I feel vulnerable on my bicylce due to speeding cars - particularly on Wild Country Lane. Speed camera should be there and at Barrow Gurney as people use it as a rat run to the airport. One very important mention would be for double yellow lines to be placed at the old research station / Wild County Lane end of the village on both sides of the road to stop all the parking of vehicles belonging one must assume to people who have bought houses on the new estate. Surely houses of this nature have garages, why not use them? Also for Wimpey to make access available for the owners of the houses purchased on the Weston Road just past Lampton Road to be able to use land at the back of these properties to put their vehicles of the road (which is a nightmare for anyone coming out of Lampton Road turning towards Weston). I know there is plenty of garden space to the rear of these houses enough to build a parking area in each property. I have left a few unanswered questions due to unsure feelings.

Important to progress - extend services/housing but maintain a village environment. Parking on main road increasing problem - new housing has changed feel of the village. AS a member of Long Ashton Bowling Club I find it disgusting that we have to clear the bowling green of Dogs' mess which has been regularly thrown over for the past years. Other damage has been caused, such as burning the hedge between the green and football fiels and the net as a protective measure has been torn down fairly regularly. Just a small bunch of young people are a nuisance and we have no power to control them. In fact, we dare not antagonise them or we get more aggro.

parking on main road has become very bad:is inconcisderate/parking outside houses with garages and unused driveways.Parking hal fon pavemenets in some cases such that you cannot push child wagon safely. Parking on main road bewteen Kingscroft and Wild Country Lane, outside the new houses( which all have at least 1 garage, and mostly room in front to park a second car) has made driving at ther West end of the village extremely hazardous. Early morning buses have difficulty to pass + parking at top of Glebe Road is also dangerous, if you try to turn left at top of glebe road you often encounter traffic in the middle of road on wrong side.

the lane restriction on by pass need urgent revision.Priority for multi occupancy vehicles(mainly on the school run into Bristol) should be abandoned and priority given to any vheicle using the Park and Ride facility. Ensure that any facility provided on the new Rec should cost Wimpey at least as much as the original agreement to level the land and provide football pitches. Any new development(housing) must have a greater provision of off-road parking per house- the Wimpey 1.5 spaces per house is anti social as it ensures on-road parking on narrow roads, which blocks road for emergency and large vehicles.

Youth activities should be facilitated by adults but, as far as possible, run by young people themselves to develop organisational skills and to foster a sense of responsibility. You do not mention mountain biking amongst leisure activities and yet ther are trails in the woods above the village (owned by the University of Bristol). Should these not be considered? When asking for opinions it is hardly good policy to preface questions with a set of opinions of your own on the topic! A properly designed survey would not contain statements such as the one in 2.0 Thank you for your time and effort.

Due to the expansion of the village we would like to see a good variety of shops, much closer together, becoming the heart of the village, as I don't thin there is a heart. I'm sure more money would be spent locally if we had a small shopping precinct. Access would be so much easier for the driver, only stopping and parking once, and the elderly would not have to go from one end eg the library to the other, the chemist. I would like to see bus fares at one price as other towns do, whatever the distance. £3.50 return is bad enough but £5.10 return to Nailsea is appalling. If it cost perhaps £1.50 maybe more people would leave their cars at home and the empty buses would be full. Street lighting improved. Keedwell Hill on the corner of Rayens Cross Road by the church is very dim.

Is a railway stop or station at all possible? A concrete seat /ledge in the shelter opposite the Bird in Hand (not comfortable enough to encourage teenage congregation but just somewhere for teh elderly to perch when waiting for the bus.) The village hall stage to have a drop and a box set which can be easily assembled and painted. (At present the Festival Committee is organising rehearsals for over thirty young people for the "Dick Whittington's Cat" pantomime. Having to borrow from other places to assemble the sets will eventually discourage adults from continuing to provide this useful village activity. In the past, not just actors but also used the old woodland drop (I noticed how tatty the silver strips are now becoming). It would be wise to encourage a more professional looking stage whilst the festival committee are still being enthusiastic.

11.11 - 11.17 seems unfair to have emphasised the desire for the junior football club to have their own space. Football already takes up a large part of the village recreational space. It would be nice to have some local restaurants as opposed to public houses. One of the bigger problems faced by Long Ashton is anti-social behaviour. The use of walkways and lanes by motorised scooters is particularly worrying. Really need to sort out the anti-social elements and police should undertake this. The village should be made safer. The village boundary and green belf MUST be protected from the creep of Bristol AND the commercial and residential development through the valley. The more recent decisions of the council seem to not take any notice of residents. There should be better use and development of green areas for use by residents of all ages. For instance the new housing in the village (Bristol end) didn't properly provide areas for play and enjoyment. Council allowed the creation of a tasteless estate. In next 5 years would like to see LA become a prettier village with a greater community sense of pride, no massive housing sprawl projects, and adequate support for local businesses. The Co-op area is in dire need of changing but this is possibly more to do with the level of yobbish behaviour.

Better parking management. No parking on both sides of the street along the main road to beyond the old Northleaze School during big events at Ashton Court. There have been some "ugly" scenes over the past few years when the main road becomes gridlocked. Keeping the lid on expansion to make sure we don't become a suburb of Bristol. Cycle lane along the main road. Cycle access to Ashton Court after the main gates are locked. Even cycling through in the dark is ten times safer than the Cumberland Basin. What about brokering a deal with David Lloyd or Redwood Lodge to get residents to use their facilities. Lobby North Somerset Council to put a 50mph speed limit on the LA bypass which would reduce road noise significantly (it did when the road works slowed traffic down).

With regard to medical services we have excellent facilities. Earlier this year when discharged from hospital I was given a number to phone as soon as I arrived home. Within half an hour a nurse from WSM arrived from the Rapid Response Team to arrange twice daily visits for washing dressing etc. This lasted for 2 weeks when the Intermediate Team took over for a period of 4 weeks. Physiotherapy was also included, all at a time convenient to the patient. When I said I could manage tp put myself to bed they agreed providing they could phone each evening to check. The "meals on wheels" service were advised which I still use. North Somerset is, I believe, one of the last local authorities to operate this. Hopefully Long ashton remains separate from Bristol for ever and does not fall foul as it did many yyears ago when the RDC lost Bower Ashton and Bishopsworth. 2.03: Traffic calming alwlays causes bottle-necks; enforcement and education are the ways forward. 2.07: The problem at Glebe Road has been exacerbated by the ill-placed school. Closing this would only move the problem elsewhere. There needs to be a proper connecting road between the A38 and A370 and Weston Road. 3.03: For whose benefit? 3.07 & 3.08: How can you compromise quality any further? Service is abysmal at best of times. We need to get VALUE FOR OUR MONEY! 3.10: Waiting areas need to be LIGHTED; most are in total darkness. Also the drain at the stop opposite Glebe Road needs clearing to prevent flooding. 3.12: I cycle a lot in the village. Major problem is the lack of courtesy and common sense displayed my MOST drivers. 5.01: Though delivered, it is always late - events on Thurs. Fri. or Sat. always get missed out because don't know about them until AFTER they have happened. 5.07/5.09: Each of these ideas has its pros and cons, and the degree of each will depend on the type of person the new resident is. It may be necessary to employ each on a trial and error basis to find which really works, but one thing is for certain, there needs to be clear, concise, relevant and TIMELY info. to help integrate - it's just like settling in to a new job. 7.03: Need to enforce the current rules esp. for those irresponsible dog owners. Also need more BINS. 7.02: Need to do something about the youths that hang around littering and abusing passers-by before ? 8.02: Pavements need to be widened for access reasons, and parking should be restricted esp. on the main road. 8.05: Not encountered problems. 9.03: Jobs in the village will create traffic! There has to be adequate traffic management plans for all new developments. 10.02: More annoyance than 'unsafe'. 10.04: Is there a service? 11.01/11.07: Facilities used by young people that cater to their interests is good, and will teach them skills, and provide the guidance they don't get at home. 11.08/11.10: Location would be an issue with these, though they would be good, as access would be paramount. 11.11/11.17: If dog mess is a problem, then enclose the pitch or prevent dog walking and enforce it - there are many other places to walk dogs, but need more poo bins. Something like a proper BMX track or skate park would help prevent the damage done in the woods by kids who build impromptu tracks and cause lots of damage, and put walkers and dogs at risk. Would also keep them off the streets, and give them an area they can call their own.

I would like every child living in Long Ashton to be offered a primary school place WITHIN the village. As a non-driver, and a parent of 2 children under 5, I am forced to take 2 buses into Bristol to take my child to school, as I was unable to get a place at either primary school in Long Ashton. Many of the new residents with children, including myself, will hope that once moving to the village, they can become more involved with the community whilst attending a local school. This is impossible, as the Local Authority would prefer to pay for children to be 'taxied out' to primary schools in other areas, e g Dundry, which have no social or geographical links with Long Ashton, simply to fill places. Why should our children be victims of this inadequate planning? It seems unfortunate that Northleaze Primary has moved to a 'purpose built' site, yet has remained the same size, and is unable to cater for the LOCAL comminity's needs. A womens' football team and/or netballl team would also be good.

Not sure whether it is useful to ask for 'opinions' on merits of various schemes, without providing background info. I am not really qualified to decide whether a 2nd football pitch is more needed than a scout hut. Presumably other residents will be suitably unqualified, which discredits the validity of the responses. Why can't the Scouts use the same venue as the Guides? Presumably their inner village site could be sold, and funds used for other purposes? Longer opening hours at Library. Continued opening up of rights-of-way/footpaths.

I own a mobile scooter, but am unable to use it to the villge shops (1 mile),because of inadequate footpaths and insufficient lowered kerbs at on/off points. INCONSIDERATE PARKING: When not in use, where a drive or hard standing is available, cars should be parked therein, not left on the road all day causing an obstruction. BANKING: There is a need for a Bank in Long Ashton, particularly with all the new properties soon to be occupied both here and the proposed new development on the Barrow Hospital site. More reasonably priced bungalows should be built in Long Ashton for elderly people who have, in past years, been active participants in many pursuits in the village, and do not wish to leave the area.

Regardless of what has seemingly become the Anti-Environment Department's intention through revaluation, I think that one should consider the planting of trees, where made possible, around the village as a boundary demonstration disconnecting itself from any intenntion of a larger boundary authority. Although one could say Long Ashton has become a townite village, I'm sorry, I cannot understand the thought of various businesses, which would be the basis of township. To support landfill site at east end of village with subsequent landscaping to debar the area from permanent building development.

We do not feel the Community Police Officer is visible enough within this village. Additionally, on the 2 occasions we have sought his guidance we did not feel this was of any value. It is important to build more smaller local shops in order to maintain a community atmmosphere. With the growing percentage of young families, it would be a good investment to provide additional leisure facilities, again to maintain the community atmosphere.

It would be good to have a proper restaurant in the village. I know you can have 'pub food' but to take someone out for a special occasion means going to Bristol. Also it would be good to have a Waitrose or similar quality supermarket. The Co-op, I'm afraid, doesn't 'cut the mustard'. With these extra 1000? homes in the village, I feel both above points are valid.

We used to live in a fantastic village in Leicestershire that had the best atmosphere and community spirit of all places we've lived in in the UK. The centre of the village had a real 'heart' to it with park areas, pubs, restaurants, flower shop etc. There was also an excellent bi-monthly village magazine to which all residents of the village were encouraged to contribute. We might want to think of something similar in L.A. to cover all aspects of village life (both young and old). The village, by the way, has a smaller population than L.A., and an excellent web-site. The village name is Quorn or Quorndon - check it out!

Due to the rapid expansion of residential properties, we believe the surery should expand accordingly to cope with the obvious increase in patients using it in order to provide care at the necessary level. I would like to see a ramp made at the side of the steps on Tripps Row. My daughter has a tough time with a young child in its push chair up and down the steps to get to and from her house. She cannot leave the child at the top or bottom of the steps, so has to carry pram and child up or down herself when taking her other children to school etc. It would be nice to have a Bank in the village if only it opened a few days, it would be a great help. Cars should be stopped from parking half on the pavements, it is dangerous for mums with prams.

For the people who have hearing loss, some kind of lip reading class would indeed be very useful. According to the Weston College - they have stopped the lip reading class as according to a hearing person. This is a BIG BIG LOSS to we who are having problems hearing. We would have the chance to meet others in the village wit the same disability. Many thanks, Mrs Gardner.

Tighter control of drunk young people late at night in the village. Drugs enforcement i.e stop and searching by police, noise, anti-social behaviour controls and enforced. Teenagers or adults that cause damage made to pay for their criminal damage - named and shamed. Better health centre - doctors are useless. Shopping centre - as Nailsea. Good neighbour scheme - keep down noise as new people into the village seem to behave as they please and are not considerate to others.

I think the shops should take the responsibility to clear up rubbish/damage/grafitti near them. Obviously this is particularly relevant to the Co-op who seem to encourage so many kids to hang around their door. I also think there should be more dog litter bins in the village.

Bus frequency - Weston and Clevedon buses should be routed through the village, rather than down the bypass, thus giving improved service. Library not mentioned in this survey - WHY NOT? It should be improved by providing a toilet and refreshments, thus fulfillliing the need for a meeting place in the centre of the village, and encouraging people to the shopping area. The opening hours should also be increased to make better use of the exissting valuable facility. Doctors surgery - With the expanded village, there is a need for an EXTRA FULL TIME DOCTOR. Surgery should be open at lunchtime (invaluable for working people), and we should return to a Saturday morning emergency surgery. CURRENT OPENING HOURS ARE INADEQUATE. Parking - Vehicles parked on the main road outisde the new houses at the Research Station create a very dangerous situation and should be prevented. Police should enforce obstruction laws on the bend/brow of the hill. Pavements - These should be better maintained and cleared, particularly along 'The flats' to Cambridge Batch. I felt unable to complete Sections 4 and 11. I would like to see an expansion of activities for sport and leisure and the community generally but Section 10 Nuisance Behaviour must be the first priority. It has been happening for a long time and still persists. it has affected the History Society - electricity vandalised leaving us in the dark for 20 minutes; caterers for a function harassed when delivering food for a private event; burning of the trees at the bowling green and missiles thrown over the hedge onto the bowling greenwhile play was in progress; dents in the walls of the comparatively new pavilion and regular harassment and damage; eggs thrown at members of the short mat bowling club and all over the carpet. general damage to the community buildings especially broken windows. Motor bikes ridden across the football pitch at high speed andangering children playing in the area. Blatant theft to be seen when shopping in the Co-op which could jeopardise our shopping facilities in the future. The fact that the Junior Football Club will not play on the local pitch due to dog mess is scandalous. At present a community park would suffer from the same problem in addition to vandalism. Thepolice have proved ineffective in dealing with these problems. Their response time is too long and people who report nuisance rarely feel satisfied with the action or non action against those responsible. I enjot living in Long Ashton and my only regret is that a few people are allowed to mar the pleasure of the majority. I don't want to see money wasted and people who have devoted a great deal of their time to the community disappointed.

We had been to Twickenham for the day and on our return the taxi dropped him at Picolo's while I continued home. He ordered the food, read the paper while waiting and on leavong someone acused him of laughing at his mate and punched him. He now has cut and swollen lips, and is understandably upset. We have not reported this incident to the police since he cannot give a description of the attackers. I have grave concerns about the pedestian crossing at the Co-op. On a great many occasions one car has stopped, I have started to walk across, the car on the other side doesn't. I feel this is a great danger to children in particular. I have been in contact with Trevor Byford and he says the police are aware of the problem and are hoping to back a puffin crossing. Perhaps we could all back this before a child is knocked down. There has already been one knocked down on the other village crossing for the same reason as described above. I have answered the questions on buses; however it is rather difficult to give the answers as I am a pensioner so get free transport - this does encourage me to use them more. I gather the C-op have put clamping signs in the car park behind them. This will not help the already obvious parking problem on the main road outside; this car park, as I understand it, is not entirely the Co-op's but part belongs to the local authority anyway. It should be made clear by the Co-op which are their parking spaces if they are making this claim. I also understanf d the vet practice has 2-3 spaces for their staff - even the GPs were never given parking spaces! 2-3 spaces is quite unnecessary - there is only one visiting vet as there is only one consulting room. I also feel the Co-op should be pressured into using their own rear loading bay. I gather it needs bringing up-to-date for Health and Safety. Their lorries cause a great many problems on the road. I have even seen them carry on with their manoeuvres and keep an emergency vehicle waiting.

Access to the A38 through Yanley Lane is what should be restricted. This respondent wrote against Q2.09 that I live "on the A38 - top of Yanley Lane" A38 - The higher volume of traffic on this road makes it more difficult to cross with tractor/LR & trailers etc. Dangerous in fact. Betwen the King's Road and Dundry lane there needs to be a 40mph limit and a speed camera. The bollards etc outside the Town and Country Lodge are better for the hotel but actually a hazard as speeding vehicles do not see them! Yanley Lane - This becomes more and more a rat-run where the speed of vehicles is frightening, there have been several accidents, (unreported some of them) The lane needs a speed limit. 30mph and a notice of how narrow it is. At the end of the lane the school signs do now slow the traffic down but - Glebe Road - at the top particularly is a nightmare with parked cars. There were double yellolines there before the re-surfacing but they have never been put back. They are desperately neede there. Back to the A38 - Between King's Head Inn and Dundry Lane has really become a dangerous stretch of road. More vehicles using the refreshment bar in the Collettes Brook Lay-by, added to the problem. In this particular stretch the A38 is not coping with the increased volume of traffic which is obviously being generated by the airport.

Gutters and pavements need sweeping on a regular basis. The village is filthy. Parking. Something must be done about inconsiderate parking especially in Providence opposite Short Lane where cars and vans are permanently left on a blind bend and the brow of a hill. Also on the main road outside the new houses which are being built at the research station. Bouble Lines must be put at these locations before somebody is killed. Police to patrol on foot throughout the village especially at night to deter vandalism. Not just the main road but the side roads and lanes. Driving through in a Panda car does not address the problem.

Why is the Park and Ride bus cheaper than the service bus to Bristol. Surely this is a subsidising people with cars in preference to people without! The Park and Ride has a more pleasant waiting area and provides car parking so it should be more expensive than the service bus. Pedestrian/cycling facilities along the main road are awful.

Co-op improving, well stocked but bakery expensive. People have to drive to gatcombr Farm Shop or use trecherous pavements by fast road. Could Gatcombe supply fresh produce to Co-op? A football pitch for juniors is a good idea but it would have to be protected from fouling by dogs and vandalism. Ths access from the new development on Weston Road (through the stone wall) encourages parking of vehicles along that stretch of road, which causes vehicles to cross into the path of oncoming traffic. This is dangerous and could well result in accidents. Speed cameras/radar will penalise law abiding drivers who inadvertently to the speed limit by 1 to 5 miles per hour, whilst not catching those who drive under the influence of drink or drugs.

I would like to see the Council do something about the lanes and hedges. The trees are getting out of order. We have had to cut back [?] overgrown down the lane. I know people that had their head scratched with the thorns during evenings. the worst lane is the one from Cedar Road to Brokes Farm - the trees need to be cut back. Considering the size of LA and the surrounding area, I think that the PO is inadequate. There is not enough room to move in there. Suggest an approach to be made to the Co-op to introduce a PO within this store, similar to the ones already operating within the Bristol area.

The pavements are very narrow. There should be more shops in the village to cater for disabiled people who cannot travel alone further afield and for the people who have moved into the new housing. Clubs for women on their own or married to make new friends. Seats at bus stops in the village. Disabled parking outside the Doctors. New glasses for drivers in LA because they don't seem to be able to read the speed limits of 30mph. Christmas decorations and lights plus a christmas tree, party for the residents of LA. We live in the dark ages here. Backwell and Nailsea have Xmas lights! Street lights are awful here at night, it is very dark. Cafe in the village to meet daily for a coffee and chat. What is the difference betwee the two? Both are residential family houses, childen are waliking in both areas - more in the 30mph area due to the presence of a primary school. Cycle path all the way to Bristol city centre that can be used in winter when it is dark. I cycle in the summer, it's too dangerous in winter. I do not think we should create facilities that compete with Backwell sports centre. We want to work with Backwell to provide additional faciilties. The top priority for the 354/353 bus services it to improve reliability between 5-6pm from Bristol. There is no back way via footpath to the park and ride unless you take your wellingtons and enjoy walking through slurry! Reopen the LA railway station please - this would stop traffic problems into Bristol.

Inconsiderate parking on the main road is becoming a major problem, particularly the creation of chicanes. This can only be resolved by double yellow down one side of the road. A pleasant park where the elderly and Mums with prams can sit in place would be a great asset.

I think that the village has deterioriated in the past 6 years that I've lied here. Prior to the new estates. Little is done about the youths who hang about or the vandalism that gets committed. I had throw a rock at my car which bashed the door in. I'm still waiting after 4 years for the police to come. We need a police presence, never mind a once a week "clinic" and radar speed traps. What would I like to see? NO more housing estates built. I notice that Weston Road near the housing estate always is obstructed by parked cars. I would suggest that double yellow lines be painted on Weston Road and that cars breaking the rules either be towed away or clamped. This is for road alongside the new estates - people who live there should park on their estate and not on the main road.

Q2.07 is unclear. Does it mean stopping traffic going into Glebe Rd from Yanley Lane? If yes this means closing off Yanley Lane during the rush hour. This would be an excellent idea. Close off Yanley Lane to make it access only for residents. Put access road onto the bypass and off the bypass from Wild Country Lane/near Barrow Hospital to route the traffic from the Nailsea end of Long Ashton to the bypass rather than through the village. With the number of new houses put in amenities at the Nailsea end of the village i.e. pub/restaurant. Reduce speed limit on Yanley Lane to 20mph along its entirety from Glebe Road to the Woodspring golf and country club. I have lived in Long Ashton for 10 years and I have never been welcomed into the village and feel it's only for administration convenients that Yanley is part of Long Ashton, in fact if we had not rung the council we would not have received recycling bags and boxes. If the heading of Section 7 is correct then Yanley Lane is obviously not considered as the banks are eroded by the traffic and by fly tipping. Where is the Parish Councli action on that?

Unhappy with the Chairman of LA Parish Council's comment about 'further road signs and yellow lines not being desirable (newsletter/winter 06-07). Safety counts for more than aethetics Mr Scoones, resign forthwith. There is a huge parking problem in the area around the new Northleaze School and if restrictions - yes, signs and yellow lines - are not introduced, there will be fatalities. I hope to see LA Parish Council adopt a more enlightened and less precious policy in the near future. Qestion 2.07 "entry should be prohibited.. rush hour" is imprecise. Please name the exact junction - don't use vague terms like top 2 bottom. Apart from increasing drivers road rage and inconveniencing local residents I can't see what these closures would achieve. Glebe Road has pavements, incidentally, on which pedestians whould be safe if parking were properly regulated. Providence Lane is a necessary artery. The one way (I remind you it is one way) section of Yanley Lane is unsuited to any increase in traffic volume (dangerous junction at Glebe Road). It seems to me that vast sums have been poured into youth projects and community centre already. The surgery could improve health provision massively by staying open later in the evenings.

Why use the Park & Ride if you live in LA? Surely it would be better to walk, use a bus or ride a bike - otherwise you are just adding to the congestion Public transport must & needs to be fully addressed before other road calming/speed restrictions are put in place The Mercury is a very important part of communication as an addition to the village Newsletter Welcoming new residents - I don't know how this would work as we moved in last August and haven't seen any publicity for such events. I would also be concerned that there appears to be much resentment to the new houses (and their occupiers) from older residents The health centre seems to be overwhelmed and it can tke time to get an appointment. Is it big enough to cope with the new influx of residents? The use of the car park for dropping off children for the schjool needs to be monitored, most parents still drop off in Copford Lane. Poor lighting at Co-op car park discourages my wife to shop there - its unsafe.

Car owners should be strongly discouraged from parking on footpaths
tagged with: parking

Heavy rush hour traffic through the village is a problem. More people would use the Park and Ride if there was a footpath to it from the Theynes Croft Estate.
tagged with: park and ride   traffic

Horse fouling of roads and footpaths should be strongly discouraged. Horse riders as well as dog owners should make every effort to clear up. Narrow roads outside Church House and the Angel cause terrible congestion. The pavements should be narrowed to encourage traffic flow. Church House users should use the car park - steps should be provided to ensure users' safety. Control the 'yobs' in the village who are intimidating, rude, use unlicensed motoprcylces on the road, ride without helmets, antagonise shopkeepers. Give them something to do is they are unemployed i.e. job creation of village amenities.
tagged with: congestion   horse riding   nuisance behaviour   parking

More use of Northleaze School car park by parents and those working at the school rather than using Theynes Croft and Copford Lane to park. Very often parking on Copford Lane is dangerous.
tagged with: parking   schools

The road surfaces in the village are diabolical and there is no mention of this in the Survey. Ridgeway Road is like a humback fairground ride where cars 'ground' routinely. Resurfacing of the main road is long overdue. Drains blocked with sludge, causing surface water to collect. I would like priority given to safer roads which enable cyclists to use roads without encountering pot holes and raised iron utitily covers being a hazard.
tagged with: road surfaces   roads

I'd like to see the old Northleaze School redeveloped, retaining essential character of the buildings. Retention of exisiting facilities, including pubs and shops. Would be fantastic to have regular Farmers Market/WI market, similar to Nailsea. Local taxi firm? Suggest steps be put into the corner of the new carpark for Northleaze School to allow safer access for people using the carpark for events at Church House. Congratulations on doing this survey and good luck with the next phase. Some suggestions in survey are a good idea, but possibly not economic to carry out.

More awareness of elderly people living alone, particularly health and care. The local Health care should be 'au fait' with the elderly and infirm and not wait for them to appear at the Surgery when it might be too late.

It would be very useful to have a few more shops such as fruit & veg or butchers. It would save on using the car to go elsewhere, also I am sure older people would find this very convenient.

I disagree with the introduction of double yellow lines on the main road as this would create an even faster rat run through the village. There is an ever increasing volume of traffic using LA at rush hours instead of the bypass. Perhaps restricted entry to the village at this time would solve the problem.
tagged with: parking   traffic

Footpaths and signs are now very good. More jobs in the village would not reduce traffic, as 'villagers' may not be employed in them. People using the village as a ratrun to avoid the bypass in rush hour are a problem. Bus lane on the bypass defeats the object! Increased parking by commuters at Ashton Court end of village is a problem. Parking on narrow sections of Weston Road is a problem. Lack of parking spaces for new houses on Research Station land is disgusting - the developers are making a fortune, putting very little back into the village. Traffic from Research Station development has increased and will get worse with commercial areas. The village is losing its identity.

Rumours circulating suggest that the old Northleaze School has been 'sold off cheaply' to a housing association. Rumours suggest that the building will become a halfway house for drug addicts, thieves and paedophiles - near Church House, also used by children. Local planning dept should notify the village as to what is 'actually' going to happen to the building. If the local Council has taken a 'back-hander' problems as highlighted in the latest 'Panorama' programme would occur.

Larger research stn building should be HOTEL. The Parish Council opposed plans for budget hotel and filling station opp Smyth Arms/Dovecote as petrol available at Sainsburys. Is this at odds with Park and Ride traffic? FOOTBALL PITCHES - some leagues demanding solid 6ft fencing around pitches - there have been problems at Nailsea. It is cheaper to hire established grounds with all facilities management and maintenance rather than DIY. NEW SCOUT HUTS - a matter for the scouts organisation rather than the council unless the scouts provide a visible contribution to the village facilities (help to keep tidy etc). At the moment their uniforms seem to be seen once a year at armistice day. COUNCIL SERVICE INFORMATION - surely the source is the parish clerk at 45 Long Ashton Road. Alternatively the library but council minutes are often weeks or months in arrears. When the council subsidised the end bay(s) of the Jubilee Pavilion it was inferred that it would be a regular source for information and discussion with council officials with a proper opening timetable. What happened to the proposed arrangement for such 'one stop shop' as discribed. TRAFFIC CALMING - already created by continuous row of kerbside parking in some portions of the main routes eg near Ashover House etc. CLOSURE OF TOP OF PROVIDENCE - a stupid idea whcih would isolate Failand etc from essential early morning services in central Long Ashton eg dentist, deposit of prescriptions and making appointments at surgery, newsagents and grocery. Resulting diversions via Belmont or Clarken Combe involve circa 3 miles travel instead of half mile via Providence and would also transfer extra traffic to main roads of village. BUSES - bus routes using bypass should be diverted through village, creating extra passengers and revenue. 364 would give direct access from Long Ashton to Clevedon, X1 to business area of Locking Road WsM (alternatively extend some 354 Nailsea servides to Clevedon). SEATING AREA - a lovely garden and seating area existed in community centre grounds allowing to fall derelict and replaced by skateboard facility, the latter was vandalised and its replacement is buried under a pile of earth and turf. TRANSPORT - a small bus once ran from Failand and residential areas but disappeared without trace! PARKING - double yellow lines needed where pedestrian curb/road access applies eg vicinity of surgery at corner junctions of Keedwell Hill/Rayens Croft Rd. CO-OP CAR PARK - clearly marked as a customer car park although some latitude given to the immediately local residents. Gather lighting was removed at request of the latter as after hours car breaking was taking place under its illumination.

I think excessive noise created by vehicles on the bypass is caused by a) excessive speed, b) oversized / modified exhausts. this could be reduced by a) speed cameras, especially on the straights, b) police clampdown / checks on noisy vehicles. the car / motorcycle noise from the bypass is a majot annoyance. further noise pollution is caused by a) light aircraft circling, b) helicopter traffic. these two sources of noise are far more annoying than large aircraft taking off. I am a cyclist. a traffic free through route to the ex-rail bridge behind Megabowl would encourage cycling into central Bristol. the section of cycle lane from Birdwell to the new school is excellent. re 7.04, there is no point in having more double lines - they are not enforced. cars regularly park on the zig-zag lines of the zebra crossing, on the pavement, etc, etc

it would be wonderful to see LA takins more of an innovative and creative steer to thinking about, and doing something, reducing waste and employing alternative sources of energy. relying on the mercury as the main means of advertising events is problematic. some of us have no delivery and many of us receive delivery 2/3 days late. would have like, in the environmental section of this questionnaire, a section about overhanging and too tall trees and bushes causing distress to neighbours in terms of lost light and continual dropping of leaves and debris eg boundaries betweeen Rigdeway and Chestnut Roads and Northleaze/Westwood Gardens. Would love to see the village retail opportunities increase to include quality fresh food and veg to encourage and enable us to really shop locally.

the current state of litter around the co-op is unacceptable. it should be the co-op's responsibility to the community to deal with this on a daily basis. the car park at the co-op is also an eyesore - this whole area so central to the village blights it - a great pity. it seems very unlikely that more businesses established in the village will reduce traffic, the opposite is likely when the offices/units start to be occupied on the Research station site. our main concerns regarding the village relate to: - car parking on roads; - cars speeding; - litter; - poor regulation of new developments -unsightly horadings, flags, etc on development sites - filthy roads from muddy vehicles; - future strain on village medical services with increased population; - the lack of a 'focus' on the main street - this should be at the co-op - but the whole area aorund lets the village down.

There should be no parking of vehicles on the main road between the bus stop and opposite auto-scuderia. Vehicles should NOT be parked at the top part of glebe road, and auto-scuderia should provide off road parking for their employees and customers.

A 'village square' area would make the village more of a community. A cafe would help. Traffic calming measures would make the village safer. Traffic has become a lot worse around Glebe road, with the new school near by. I feel the constant cars passing through, puts childrens safety at risk. Perhaps speed bumps will slow traffc.

THE VILLAGE NEEDS A CAFE BAR

"More useful shops would help in village".

Traffic use of Providence Lane and prohibited entry at rush hour. The following should also be noted, regarding Providence Lane: 1. A rat run at all times of the day 2. Excessive speed of many vehicles 3. No footpaths for much of its length 4. The only pedestrian route for shops, surgery, etc for residents on/off Providence Lane 5. The only route for parents/grandparents taking pushchairs down to the playground and Keedwell Centre from upper Providence Lane Village facilities are only accessible by car from this area (increasing congestion etc) because the route down is almost too dangerous to use as a pedrestrian. Consider the possibility of: - speed ramps - entry restricted for access only - a one way system - single lane sections (as at Portbury) No bus service from Providence Lane

The road section from the bottom of Providence Lane to Keedwell Hill to be made one way only up to stop commuters using Providence Lane as a short cut. More "double yellow" lines by any road junctions on Providence lane to stop obstruction and restricted vision which will eventually cause nasty accidents if not checked. Stop pavement parking as well. Another "doctors surgery" within 5 years with minor injury clinic eg I had to go to BRI just to have fingernail removed. Local radio station for North Somerset to involve an all age groups and taregted to encourage young people and promote local benefits. Bus stop at the top of Providence Lane for the Clevedon bus.

People who choose to live in a village shouldn't expect the leisure facilities of a town and I pay more than enough Council tax as it is! We need enough facilities for young people to prevent nuisance behaviour, but not so much as to attract young people from outside Long Ashton. Apparently this has happened in Backwell, with outsiders causing disturbance. Leylandii hedge just past the Little Tipple is a nuisance: Iam angry the owner has let this hedge grow so wide. A full width pavment is needed here for mums with small children and the elderly. Speed cameras would get vandalised.

Double yellow lines - especially near new development

Improvement in the public realm around co-op,vets Home zone initiative Enforcement to prevent pavement parking CCTV around rec More frequent street claensing around co-op and rec NS Council should do more to encourage more sustainable housing development. Suggest housing design SPD My 8 year old daughter feels inhibited by the anti-social behaviour of a minority. Consider the introduction of a dispersal order after 8 pm around co-op and rec.

Long Ashton is a village, however with the influx of so many 'incomers' over the last few years and the obvious increase over the next couple of years, it will be important to ensure that we retain that village atmosphere .. its why people such as myself moved here. Anything that can be done to enhance a spirit of community, to encourage our youngsters to take pride in where they live, to ask our older folk to be inclusive and suportive of our youngsters as they grow ... all these will be essential. Traffic, in my opinion is the biggest issue in Long Ashton.. so mkae positive changes to reduce speed, stop roadside parking and increase safety.

More lighting in any part of the village would not be conducive to a better environment. A continuation of the cycle/footpath from back of Theynes Croft behind Northleaze School and out behind Church and over to Park & Ride (using existing brideg over by-pass) would allow villagers to reach Park & Ride, Ashton Court, Bristol and David Lloyd without going near th busy main roads. Cycling through Ashton Court is prohibitive because: - the gates are not open early enough for commuting - the speed bumps are so rigid and acute they cripple a road bike .. cars on the other hand can pass over without slowing. Speed control on the main road is essential. HGVs should be prohibited access only. Speed cameras would only moderate their immediate area. However would average speed checkers not be better. Alternatively 'give way to oncoming' vehicles could be constructed.

"Cycle paths" - should be more. Community Worker - yes, but who would pay ? Most friends and family live in Bristol - could not afford LA prices. Negotiate with Network Rail for a ne small train station (and car parking). "Green belt" is pretty pointless if we carry on destroying habitats within the village ! There are some good ideas in this questionnaire - but questions about building new businesses depnds on impact on the environment, impact on individual residents and transport (people from elsewhere would also want to work there so transport problem remains - just goes in the other direction). Yanleigh Lane is a nightmare - particularly on a bike - particularly at night. Motorists know it can get choked so race through as quick as possible - needs some kind of safety audit. An "idea" - to reduce pollution and congestion introduce maximum engine size to all residents and through traffic - no 4 * 4, no gas gusslers, no cars above 1.5 l. No more than 2 cars per household - that should sort it ! then convert the extra space created into clearly marked cycle/walking lanes.

"Traffic speed" - I would like to see 20 mph limits on most residentials side roads and certainly on providence lane. Community - I think the best way to involve new residents in village life is to increase the facilities in the "sports and leisure" section. Central Area of shops - Traffic calming, planting and 20 mph limits with brick paved narrowed gateways at ends - from bottom of providence lane to the Archway and extending up to the Community Centre. I would like to see a community owned wind turbine on the golf course.

I am unable to walk, so cannot get out
