Ring Road - Long Ashton Group news

The Alliance has presented its case against the ring road to the Examination in Public by the South West Regional Assembly on the draft Regional Spatial Strategy.  The road was also opposed by several environmental organisations including CPRE, Bristol Civic Society and Transport 2000.

The proposal has been discussed by the Highways Committee of the Parish Council, and the council has had a presentation and question session with a senior officer from North Somerset. Studies are being carried out at present, and more detailed nformation about the proposal will not be available until about March next year, at the earliest.

There seems to be a change in the perceived function of the road, with phases 1 and 2 now being called a "link road". The emphasis thus seems to be shifting towards the LA end of the road, with the possibility that connection to the existing ring road may not be made for some years at least. this does not diminish the potential damage to LA from a morel imited proposal.

The Alliance is planning a leaflet campaign, aiming to inform those likely to be affected by the road and its associated development. This is supported by the Long Ashton Group, and will aim to encourage residents to contact their elected representatives.
