LACCA
LACCA was formed in 1990 by a group of five Long Ashton residents, led by Miss Mary Adams, who was the District Nurse at the time. Since then, LACCA has grown from strength to strength, due to the kind donations given by the residents of Long Ashton.
At present, over 100 people are being supplied with equipment, free of charge, for the period of their disability. Upon its return, it is sanitized, checked, and kept in one of our "Stores" - garages loaned to us by several residents. Unfortunately, we do not have a general storage building, and therefore have to keep tight records as to the whereabouts of each item, in order that they are easily accessible.
The present LACCA committee consists of Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary, Equipment Secretary and Equipment Advisor. Equipment installation is carried out by the three men on the committee, with occasional help given by village residents. When an item is requested, it is usually supplied within days; a Form of Agreement is signed, and we request that the item be added to the receiver's household insurance. When the item is no longer required, we undertake to remove it as soon, and as sensitively, as possible.
For LACCA to continue in its efficient way we really urgently need another committed committee member, who would be prepared to take responsibility for the issue of equipment upon request. It would be a pity for LACCA to be forced to fold simply because there was nobody willing to take any responsibility as our work load increases.
